Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay was to be returned to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday afternoon, after doctors found him fit to be discharged from hospital.

A 10-member medical committee at the Colombo National Hospital informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that Sallay had completed his treatment and could be discharged. He had been receiving treatment at the hospital while in CID custody.

Following the medical assessment, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed the court that Sallay would be taken back into CID custody that afternoon.

Sallay is detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
