Sajith says high-security zones new form of Government repression

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa says the Government has now declared several high-security zones as a new form of illegal repression against the people. 

According to Premadasa, the Government has unleashed three forms of repression against the people including declaring several high-security zones, the misuse of the Prevention of Terrorism Act to imprison student leaders and the repression of the media. 

Premadasa made these comments at an Electoral Organising Committee meeting held in Kesbewa on Sunday. Premadasa attended several such party meetings over the weekend. During the public meeting, the SJB leader also highlighted the issues surrounding child malnutrition in Sri Lanka. “Despite the issues in nutrition being brought to the notice of the Government, the relevant Ministers are merely providing arrogant and haughty responses,” he said. 

“The Lotus tower was built to herald prosperity. The people voted for the Lotus bud two years ago in the hopes the group will rebuild this country. But in a turn of fate today parents are digging for lotus roots in order to make money to purchase a packet of milk powder for their children,” he pointed out. 

“Some have claimed one feels closer to the heavens from atop the Lotus tower. But if one glances down from the tower, they will only witness the immeasurable sufferings of the country’s people,” he added. 

Premadasa claimed the SJB was the only true green party and it has a sustainable green policy which will be implemented as part of the political party’s future journey.
