Sajith confirmed as Samagi Jana Sandanaya’s common Presidential candidate

• FPC members MPs Dilan Perera and Prof. G.L Peiris announces support for Premadasa 
• Perera stresses entire Opposition must unite to oust current Govt. 
• Peiris says broader program is needed in 2024 to protect country’s citizens

Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa was yesterday confirmed as the common Presidential candidate of the broad political alliance, the Samagi Jana Sandanaya. 

The announcement was made by Freedom People’s Congress (FPC) member MP Dilan Perera during a press conference in Colombo where Perera along with fellow FPC member Prof. G.L Peiris voiced their support for Premadasa. 

Perera said the FPC is undivided in working together with the SJB to form a broad alliance. “If the current Government is to be ousted the entire Opposition must come together,” he stressed.  “Premadasa is the common candidate. The SJB is the main force behind the coalition being formed. He is not only the common candidate of the alliance but is also the common candidate of the entire opposition bloc” Perera confirmed.  Addressing the press conference, Prof. G.L Peiris said a broader program is needed in 2024 to protect the citizens of Sri Lanka. He said Shan Vijayalal De Silva joining the SJB will only strengthen the aims of the Opposition. 

He said the FPC is supporting the SJB at this juncture for a common aim. When questioned Peiris however admitted FPC leader Dullas Alahapperuma is yet to extend his support to Premadasa.
