STF sets up special operations unit to ensure national security

A special operations unit, which functions 24-hours, has been established at the Police Special Task Force (STF) Headquarters to ensure national security and public order with immediate effect. 

This special operations unit has been set up following the directives of Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne to strengthen the national security and also to curb the illegal activities in the country. 

The STF requests the general public to lodge complaints and provide information related to organised criminal activities, gangsters, extorters, drug smugglers and persons those who are involved in such activities to the unit. 

STF sources said the confidentiality of the complaints would be assured.
