SLMC National List MP Abdul Wahid resigns

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) National List MP M.S. Abdul Wahid has resigned from Parliament, with effect from yesterday.

Wahid has formally submitted his resignation to Acting Secretary-General of Parliament Hansa Abeyratne.

In a letter addressed to the Election Commission Chairman, Abeyratne confirmed that Wahid had tendered his resignation from the office of Member of Parliament, effective 14 September.

Following the resignation, the Acting Secretary-General formally informed the Election Commission that a vacancy has arisen in the 10th Parliament.

The vacancy has been notified to the Election Commission in accordance with Section 64(5) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, paving the way for the process to fill the National List vacancy.
