The main Opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has extended an invitation to the United National Party (UNP) to participate in its May Day rally, signalling a renewed push for Opposition unity.

In a statement issued by the party yesterday, the SJB said protecting the rights of workers and citizens, while building a more positive national trajectory, has become an urgent priority.

The move follows guidance from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, with the party emphasising that collaboration between opposition forces is necessary to address current economic and social challenges.

The May Day rally is scheduled to be held at P. D. Sirisena Stadium in Maligawatte on 1 May at 2 p.m., with participation expected from parties aligned with the Samagi Jana Sandhana, along with trade unions, youth organisations and women’s groups.
