The Government will offer co-financing of up to Rs. 500 million per project to commercialise research and development (R&D) ventures with high commercial potential and large-scale growth prospects, Cabinet Spokesperson and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.
He was speaking at the media briefing on decisions taken at Monday’s (12) Cabinet meeting. Dr. Jayatissa said the scheme will run as Project Window 03 under the National Research and Development Commercialisation Gateway.
Each project will receive a Rs. 10 million grant and a bank loan of up to Rs. 40 million at a concessionary interest rate of 3%. Commercial banks will lend up to a further Rs. 450 million, with a 5% interest subsidy, to cover the project’s additional growth needs.
The Gateway already runs two windows: Window 01 provides full grants of up to Rs. 10 million for projects with small-scale growth prospects. Window 02 offers up to Rs. 10 million in grants plus loans of up to Rs. 40 million at 3% for medium-scale projects.
