The National Hospital emergency unit has seen an increase in the number of women coming for treatment, all victims of domestic violence.
NHSL head nurse Pushpa De Soysa said the rise in numbers was seen in the past few days with the curfew in place to combat the coronavirus.
“I have spoken to several of these women who come for treatment. They have been manhandled or beaten up by their spouses,” she told the Daily FT.
In a positive development, she said there have been zero admissions due to road accidents in the past two days.
