Former Prime Minister and United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday appeared before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed to probe the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Wickremesinghe left the Commission premises after providing a statement to the investigating officers of the Police unit for almost four hours.

Former Minister and UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam also appeared before the PCoI yesterday.

The two former Government officials appeared before the Police unit of the PCoI on Easter attacks following summons issued last week.

Former UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe, former Law and Order Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal Leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and State Minister Dilum Amunugama have been summoned before the PCoI next month.

Officers of the Police unit PCoI visited former President Maithripala Sirisena’s residence last week and recorded a nine-hour long statement on the attacks.

Several other politicians too were previously summoned to appear at the Police Unit of the PCoI on Easter attacks to record statements on the incident.
