The Government will roll out fertiliser subsidies for small and medium tea growers through a QR code-based system starting 1 October.
Farmers can redeem the subsidy at fertiliser suppliers registered with the National Fertiliser Secretariat, including the State-owned distributor, by presenting the QR code. The scheme offers a discount of Rs. 4,000 on a 50 kg pack and Rs. 2,000 on a 25 kg pack.
The Sri Lanka Tea Board has earmarked Rs. 2 billion for the 2025 subsidy program. The initiative is part of a broader plan to lift annual tea output to 400 million kilograms by 2030.
Support will be channelled mainly to smallholders, who account for about three-quarters of national green leaf production.
The program is jointly administered by the Tea Small Holdings Development Authority and the Tea Board.
