Public Security Ministry announces major drug bust and criminal arrests in countrywide crackdown

The Public Security Ministry yesterday announced the successful seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics and the arrest of numerous suspects during a countrywide anti-crime and drug prevention operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Police on Monday.

Accordingly, the most substantial seizure occurred on the same day when the Coastal Police intercepted four kilos and 112 grams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ‘ice’), marking one of the largest single-day coastal seizures in recent months. 

In addition, targeted raids across the country nabbed more quantities of illicit substances. These include; 105,500 milligrams of ice and 5,430 milligrams of heroin from Dehiwala, 15 grams and 740 milligrams of heroin from Peliyagoda, 12 grams and 40 milligrams of ice from Kankasanthurai, 315 grams of heroin, 2 grams and 315 milligrams of ice from Medirigiriya and 11 grams and 572 milligrams of heroin, as well as an additional 10 grams and 203 milligrams of heroin in a separate raid from Ampara. 

The Ministry also confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to a high-profile murder and vehicle robbery case reported to the Minuwangoda Police Station on 13 June. The stolen van valued Rs. 26 million was also recovered following an extensive investigation.

The move was a result of the coordinated operations conducted by the Police as part of the national effort to crackdown on organised crime, narcotics trafficking and violent crimes.
