The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the procurement of 400,000 vials of 500 mg Desferrioxamine Mesylate injection, a critical medication used to remove excess iron from the bodies of the patients who are suffering from anaemia or thalassaemia.
Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday, Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the decision follows a competitive international bidding process.
“Two bids were received in response to the call for international competitive procurement procedures. Based on the evaluation and recommendations of the highest-level standing procurement committee, it was approved to award the contract to M/s ABC Pharma Services Ltd., the only lowest responsive bidder.”
The proposal to this effect, submitted by Health Minister Dr. Jayatissa, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
