However, schools in the Western, Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provinces can only call students who are scheduled to sit for term examinations,” Education Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera said.

He said the school holiday will continue till 18 April.

Although students will be given holidays from today, all school staff including principals and teachers have been instructed to report as per usual.

In addition, steps have also been taken to close all Catholic Private and Catholic international schools in the Western Province from today till 8 April.

Catholic Schools General Manager Rev. Father Gemunu Dias yesterday said these measures were taken considering the prevailing situation in the country.

On 2 April, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Rathnayake requested the Education Ministry Education to grant school holidays from 4 April, citing children will face many inconveniences due to lengthy power cuts during the day time.
