President visits Northern Province today

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to participate in a series of official programs in Mannar and Jaffna today and tomorrow, the President’s Media Division said.

The President will attend the Northern Province Thai Pongal Festival to be held at the Ayyanaar Kovil Grounds, Velanai, Jaffna, today at 2 p.m. He is also scheduled to participate in a Thai Pongal celebration organised by the Jaffna Tourism Board at the Manipay Maruthadi Vinayagar Temple, held in support of tourism promotion in the region.

President Dissanayake will preside over the inaugural ceremony of the national housing program titled ‘A Place to Belong – A Beautiful Life,’ tomorrow, where 31,218 new houses are being constructed across the country, including 2,500 houses for families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces who remain displaced due to the war. The event will be held at the Weerasingham Primary School Grounds, Chavakachcheri, Jaffna.

In addition, the national anti-drug campaign ‘A Nation United’ will be held tomorrow at the Jaffna Technical College Grounds, under the patronage of the President.
