President tours Litro Gas Terminal

• Litro Gas Chairman says new terminal at Hambantota will be operationalised this year

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday made an inspection visit to the Litro Gas Terminal at Kerawalapitiya. 

During his inspection visit, the President also observed the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank premises, filling yard and process of unloading gas from the vessels.

State-run Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. terminal has four storage tanks capacity up to 2,000 tons of LPG each in each. The monthly gas requirement of Litro is 30,000 tons, which is supplied via seven shipments. Bowser trucks deliver gas to factories and refill cylinders at the Kerawalapitiya Terminal. 

Accordingly, Litro Gas cylinders are being distributed across the country through 42 dealers and via 12,000 trade institutions. During the last few days, 70,000-80,000 gas cylinders have been distributed on a daily basis throughout the country. The company expects that it will be able to meet the demand for LPG in the next few days.

Litro Gas Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe said that a research institution will be set up this year for LPG and the Hambantota Terminal of the Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. will also be operationalised.

The President also inquired into the well-being of the employees of the company.

Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardana, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe, Principal Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Attygalle and Technology Ministry Secretary Jayantha de Silva also joined the inspection visit.
