President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday presented the “Vishishta Seva Vibhushana” medal to 57 serving and retired senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force, recognising distinguished and dedicated service by officers of the regular forces.

The awards were presented at the Presidential Secretariat.

Addressing the ceremony, President Dissanayake said the recipients had made an exceptional contribution to the country and its people, remaining committed to their duties and responsibilities in all circumstances. He said they had continued to serve whether it was day or night, whether the weather was favourable or adverse, and whether or not their lives were at risk. The country needed a public service characterised by such dedication and accountability, President Dissanayake said.

The “Vishishta Seva Vibhushana” is a military honour established by Presidential proclamation. It is awarded to officers of the three Armed Forces who have completed at least 25 years of continuous service with a commendable service record.
