Former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera |
The Mahara Magistrate’s Court has ordered to remand former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera till 19 May after surrendering to the Court yesterday.
Ranaweera had been evading arrest and is an accused in the Kiribathgoda State property fraud case, in which former Minister Mervyn Silva is also accused.
On 5 March, Silva was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly selling a plot of State-owned land located in Kiribathgoda to a private party after forging documents. The former Minister and three other defendants in the case were recently further remanded till 19 May by the Mahara Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, the Court had also issued arrest warrants on former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera and Milroy Perera, who are also implicated in the case.
Accordingly, the CID was instructed by the Mahara Magistrate to arrest the duo and produce them in Court at the next hearing.
