The Pathfinder Foundation will hold the third webinar in its ‘In Conversation Webinar’ series with Amb. Shivshankar Menon at 13:30 Sri Lanka Time/IST on Friday, 21 May.

The webinar will focus on his most recent book, published in April this year titled ‘India and Asian Geopolitics: The Past, Present’. In the book, he addresses the changes in India’s foreign policy: since independence to the present day, and the many challenges faced as the nation seeks to find its way in the increasingly complex world of Asian geopolitics.

Examining India’s own policy choices throughout its history, Menon focuses in particular on its responses to the rise of China, as well as other regional powers. He also looks to the future and analyses how India’s policies are likely to evolve in response to current and new challenges. In 2016, he published the well-received book titled ‘Choices: Inside the Making of Indian Foreign Policy’ (Penguin Random House, India).

Amb. Shivshankar Menon was former National Security Advisor of India and Distinguished Fellow of the Centre for Social and Economic Progress. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Ashoka University, India; Chairman, Advisory Board, Institute of Chinese Studies, New Delhi; Distinguished Fellow of Brookings India; Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore; Member, Board of Trustees, International Crisis Group; and a Distinguished Fellow, Asia Society Policy Institute, New York.

He held the posts of National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India from January 2010 to May 2014; Foreign Secretary of India from October 2006 to July 2009 and has served as the Indian Ambassador or High Commissioner to China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Israel. He was chosen one of the ‘Top 100 Global Thinkers’ by Foreign Policy magazine in 2010.

The Pathfinder webinar will feature Amb. Shivshankar Menon in conversation with Bernard Goonetilleke, Chairman-Pathfinder Foundation. Whilst discussing his publication, Amb. Menon will share his views on India’s relations with its South Asian and larger regional neighbours.

Previous Pathfinder webinars have featured Amb. Shaym Saran, former Foreign Secretary to the Government of India on India and China disengagement process and Dr. Faris Hadad-Zervos, World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka on Navigating an Economy in an Uncertain World.
