A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the joint issuance of commemorative stamps marking 75 years of bilateral relations was signed between the Pakistan Post of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Department of Post of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lank on 5 March. The MoU was signed by High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka Major General (Retd.) Faheem Ul Aziz, and Department of Post Postmaster General S.R.W.M.R.P. Sathkumara, representing the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The signing ceremony took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
Under the agreement, the Pakistan Postal Service and Sri Lanka’s Department of Post will issue two unique stamps. This joint issuance of stamps will depict Takht Bhai Heritage Monastery, Pakistan and Alahana Pirivena Monastery, Sri Lanka, symbolising their shared cultural heritage and longstanding friendship. As part of the initiative, initially 5,000 stamps and 2,000 first-day covers will be exchanged between the two countries. This MoU underscores the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, fostering cultural exchange and mutual appreciation of their historical connections.
