CEB calls on public to report electricity breakdowns through multiple digital channels

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) yesterday announced that a staggering 50,000 electricity breakdowns have been reported across the country within a 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m., as Sri Lanka grapples with widespread disruptions caused by the Southwest Monsoon.

The adverse weather, which intensified from Thursday evening, brought torrential rainfall and strong winds, severely affecting both urban and rural communities. Colombo and its suburbs were among the hardest hit, where fallen trees and debris caused significant obstructions on major roads and disrupted daily routines.

Of the reported outages, power has been restored in 14,031 cases, while restoration efforts continue countrywide.

CEB Spokesman confirmed that teams are working around the clock to restore electricity safely and efficiently, despite the challenging conditions. The utility also expressed its gratitude to consumers for their patience and cooperation during this period of widespread disruption.

In response to the deluge of service requests, the CEB urged the public to report electricity breakdowns through multiple digital channels including the CEBCare App, CEBCare Web Portal, Web Self-Service, or by sending an SMS to the 1987 hotline.
