Opposition Leader requests Chinese support to rebuild Sri Lanka’s economy

The Chinese Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong met with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday. 

The meeting focused on the strengthening of existing bilateral relations as well as obtaining China’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s rebuilding efforts. Premadasa requested China’s support to develop Sri Lanka’s economy and assistance to continue the country’s manufacturing industrial revolution. 

The two leaders also discussed the Chinese economic revolution and takeaways from the process as well as regional peace and reconciliation. 

The discussion also touched on building foreign relations that in turn will strengthen regional peace and harmony as well as ensure stability.

Vice Minister Sun Weidong who is leading a Chinese Foreign Ministry delegation arrived in Sri Lanka on 29 May to co-chair the 12th round of Diplomatic Consultations between the two countries with the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardane. 

The discussions are expected to enable the two countries to assess the status of bilateral relations covering political, economic and cultural cooperation, as well as thematic cooperation and people-to-people contacts.
