One of Keheliya’s daughters remanded after failing to meet bail conditions

Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella, one of the daughters of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who was granted bail earlier yesterday, was remanded after failing to meet the Court imposed bail conditions.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested two daughters of Keheliya—Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella and Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, and her husband, Isuru Pulasthi Bandara Polgasdeniya, in connection with an investigation into allegations of money laundering.

They are implicated in the investigation into undeclared assets worth over Rs. 134 million, which includes a house valued at Rs. 40 million and a van and a motor vehicle worth Rs. 20.5 million.

As part of the ongoing investigation, several fixed deposit accounts and around 40 life insurance investment plans have also been suspended.

After considering facts presented by the CIABOC and the defence counsels, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali ordered the trio to be released on bail.

Each suspect was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three surety bails amounting Rs. 5 million each. Although Amali and her husband Pulasthi were released on bail as they successfully complied with the stipulated conditions, Chamithri Rambukwella failed to fulfil the bail conditions and thus was remanded.

Meanwhile, former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife Kusum Priyadarshini Epa, and their daughter Chandula Ramali Rambukwella, who were remanded on Wednesday after failing to meet bail conditions, were released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
