Nuncio calls for forgiveness at Easter attacks commemoration

The Vatican’s top diplomat for Sri Lanka (or Apostolic Nuncio) Andrez Jozwowlez yesterday stressed that forgiveness for those responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks must follow the establishment of truth.

Speaking at a ceremony at St. Anthony’s Shrine to mark the seventh anniversary of the attacks, he said commemoration should not be driven by vengeance.

“This commemoration should not be marked with vengeance, but with hope that justice will be served to those who were affected by the attacks,” he said, adding that forgiveness can come only after the truth behind the attacks is established.
