The no-confidence motion against the Speaker is set to be delayed, with Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake claiming it contains sub judice matters, those before the courts, which cannot be debated in Parliament.

Ratnayake confirmed that the motion had been referred to the Attorney General for his observations.

“The motion contains matters pertaining to a court case filed by a parliamentary employee against his dismissal. Apart from that, the motion is more or less slanderous. The motion cannot be debated in its present form,” he said.
