Former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena
|
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that although CCTV cameras at the residence where former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena died were operational, the system had not been recording footage for a prolonged period and no footage from the location of the death had been captured.
The disclosure was made before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena during the magisterial witness examination into the suspicious death of Chandrasena.
The CCD stated that the death had occurred at the residence of former Sri Lanka cricketer Aravinda de Silva.
During proceedings, six witnesses testified before court.
Presenting a further report, the CCD informed court that investigators had obtained a search warrant on 12 May to inspect another residence belonging to the deceased. Following the search, a laptop and several documents recovered from the premises were produced before court as case productions.
Magistrate Amarasena questioned the investigating officer on whether CCTV footage from the residence where the death occurred had been taken into police custody.
In response, the officer informed court that while CCTV cameras installed at the residence were operational, the system had not been recording footage.
However, the officer further stated that investigators had taken into custody CCTV footage from neighbouring houses covering the entrance and exit routes to the residence.
The magisterial inquiry into the suspicious death is continuing.
