Discussions were yesterday held between the Health Ministry and the Tourism Ministry on the preparation of new safety guidelines required for the development of the tourism industry, with attention drawn to eight key factors.

According to a statement issued by the Health Ministry, the guidelines will prioritise the safety of citizens of the country amidst the arrival of foreigners, a result of the development of the tourism sector, with 6,000 tourist arrivals since the reopening of the airport.

A request has been made by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga to make arrangement for Ayurveda treatment programs to operate under the supervision of a Medical Officer of Health and the participation of a medical practitioner attached to the hotel. This was due to a demand for Ayurveda treatment.
