The National Green Front said it strongly condemned the sanctions imposed on senior military commanders saying they are unjust and politically motivated and fail to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our armed forces in ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

“These actions not only undermine the country’s internal stability but also disregard the ground realities of a conflict that ended over a decade ago, restoring peace and democracy in Sri Lanka,” the Front said in a press release.

The group said that the recent sanctions have been imposed by the United Kingdom on former Sri Lankan military, Navy, and Air Force commanders, who are recognised as war heroes by the people of Sri Lanka.

“As a party committed to justice, national sovereignty, and the dignity of those who have served our country with honour, we urge the Sri Lankan Government to take a firm diplomatic stand against these unwarranted measures,” they said.

The Front called on the international community to engage in fair and unbiased assessments when addressing post-war reconciliation efforts in Sri Lanka.
