Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa said the Government must ensure that the principle that “no one is above the law” is applied equally by investigating all individuals allegedly linked to wrongdoing without exception.

Addressing a public meeting in Kesbewa yesterday, Rajapaksa said allegations relating to financial and administrative irregularities, including matters connected to coal imports and Government financial transactions, should be subject to proper investigations.

He also raised concerns over instances where suspects had allegedly been pressured into providing statements, claiming such incidents had resulted in serious consequences.

Rajapaksa further alleged that Sri Lanka had incurred unusually high fuel procurement costs relative to international benchmarks and criticised the impact of rising electricity tariffs and taxation on the wider economy.

He said higher utility charges and taxes were placing additional strain on small and medium-scale enterprises as well as households already facing economic pressure.

The SLPP MP also accused the Government of failing to deliver on key election pledges and questioned governance standards and accountability within State institutions.

Rajapaksa additionally warned against political intimidation and said democratic freedoms must be protected while maintaining fairness and impartiality in law enforcement.
