Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa and former Krrish Group Executive Director Janaki Siriwardena, who are in remand custody was yesterday further remanded till 16 October by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court in the Krrish deal case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama after considering submissions made by officers of the CIABOC and attorneys representing the suspects.
The order also stated that the decision on the suspects’ bail applications will be announced on the same day.
Rajapaksa was named the fourth suspect in the Krrish case last week. The case concerns allegations that Rs. 70 million was paid to him on three separate occasions in return for helping expedite the allocation of the Urban Development Authority (UDA)-owned Transworks Square property in Colombo Fort to Krrish Transworks Colombo Ltd., a unit of the Indian real estate developer, and securing the necessary approvals. Bribery Commission officers recorded a statement from Rajapaksa in remand custody after obtaining the Court’s permission.
Siriwardena, was arrested by CIABOC on 24 September in connection with the alleged Rs. 70 million bribe to MP Rajapaksa.
