Mobile public service program to address urban and rural development issues

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Tuesday approved implementing a mobile public service program to address pressing development issues faced by communities in underserved urban and rural areas.

The initiative is designed to simplify access to essential public services related to land use, building approvals, housing, infrastructure development and water supply. “By bringing together key Government agencies under one program, the public will be able to directly engage with officials to resolve issues efficiently,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Wednesday.

All the agencies operating under the Urban Development, Construction, and Housing Ministry such as National Community Water Supply Department, National Physical Planning Department, Urban Development Department, Urban Settlement Development Authority, National Housing Development Authority, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, Condominium Management Authority and Construction Industry Development Authority are participating in this program.

The initiative is expected to improve coordination, reduce administrative delays and offer practical solutions to citizens at the grassroots level.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Urban Development, Construction, and Housing Minister Anura Karunathilake was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
