Former First Lady Maithree Wickremesinghe has been called to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court of the summons when proceedings in the case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe were taken up yesterday.

The case relates to allegations that approximately Rs. 16.9 million in public funds were utilised for a visit to London in late 2023, during which the former President attended Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe’s graduation ceremony while on an official trip.

Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who had been remanded over allegations of facilitating the release of state funds for the visit, was granted bail yesterday by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
