Main suspect in Club Wasantha’s murder brought to SL

Police detail list of crimes and ongoing investigations by suspect

The key suspect behind the 8 July 2024 double murder of ‘Club Wasantha’ and another individual in the Athurugiriya Police division—Lathuwahandi Sujeewa Ruwan Kumara Silva alias ‘Loku Pattie,’ a wanted organised criminal—was brought to Sri Lanka yesterday by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials.

Police said the suspect, arrested in Belarus, arrived in the country at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, yesterday morning on a flight from Dubai.

Due to many organised criminals and suspects being overseas, Sri Lanka Police, in coordination with The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), had issued Red Notices to apprehend them. This suspect, wanted for several serious crimes, was recently arrested in Belarus by its security forces.

The Police noted that the suspect will be produced before Court and held in custody for extensive investigations.
