MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday further remanded Badulla District MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake till 8 April in connection with one of three corruption allegations levelled against him.
The MP is accused of allegedly causing a loss of Rs. 23 million to the Government by withdrawing fixed deposits held in a State bank.
MP Dassanayake was arrested by the Bribery Commission after recording a statement on 27 March.
He was arrested on three corruption charges linked to his previous tenure as a State Minister.
After being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, the MP was released from two charges on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each over the first two charges. However, the remaining charge led to his remand.
