Lankan envoy meets key Myanmar Union Ministers

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar Prabashini Ponnamperuma recently met with Myanmar Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Union Minister Dr. Wah Wah Maung and Foreign Affairs Union Minister U Than Swe in Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of Myanmar. The main focus of the discussions was on the promotion and improvement of economic activities between the two countries.

The discussions with Union Minister Dr. Maung were mainly focused on furthering cooperation between the two countries, including in trade and investment sectors. Senior officials from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar also attended the meeting.

At the meeting with Union Minister Swe, Ponnamperuma discussed collaboration in the sectors of trade, agriculture, services and other economically important areas, in addition to religious and cultural cooperation. The Ambassador also used the meetings as an opportunity to convey thanks and appreciation to the Government of Myanmar for the assistance given in the rescue and repatriation of Sri Lankans who were detained in illegal scam centres in Myawaddy, Myanmar, including the most recent repatriations. Senior officials from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, including the Director General of Political Affairs, attended the meeting.
