Kiriella tells Govt. to release political detainees before HRC sessions

Lakshman Kiriella yesterday reminded of the upcoming Resolution against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights

Council in Geneva, and called on the Government to release all political detainees before 12 September. The SJB MP was referring specifically to representatives of the Aragalaya who are detained under the PTA.

Kiriella said it was a violation of international law to detain peaceful protestors, and noted these actions by the Government could gravely impact proceedings at the Human Rights Council.
