Kegalle Magistrate directs IGP to arrest police personnel involved in Rambukkana shooting

Kegalle Magistrate Vasana Nawaratna today directed the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to arrest and produce before court the police personnel who were involved in the shooting at a group of protestors on 19 April which left one dead, and several others seriously injured.
The Magistrate directed that the police personnel involved, including a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and several others be produced in Court.
In addition to the ongoing magisterial inquiry, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has started an inquiry over allegations police fired live ammunition without using other means to disperse the crowd that had gathered demanding fuel.
