Former Court of Appeal Justice D.M. Samarakoon, nominee of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, has been appointed as Right to Information (RTI) Commissioner to a vacancy pending since January 2025.
Now, the Commission will constitute four Commissioners. The Chair is yet to be appointed and the Constitutional Council process is underway.
The appointment of Justice Samarakoon is by President Anura Kumara Disanayake in terms of Section 12(1)(b) of the Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016.
