Japanese Ambassador calls on Justice Minister

The new Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki called on Justice Minister Ali Sabry yesterday.

During the meeting, discussion took place about strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Minister updated the Japanese Ambassador on the judicial reforms and developments. In terms of the role of the Justice Ministry, Sabry expressed the existing challenges in the judicial sector categorising and dividing them into three segments.

Firstly, the law reforms, judicial activities and the provision of connected infrastructure facilities. Secondly, strengthening of peace and reconciliation among different ethnic groups with the cooperation of the departments coming under the purview of the Justice Ministry that are directly involved in matters pertaining to strengthening of peace and reconciliation among different races. Thirdly, the matters relating to implementation of prison reforms and prison management, the Minister observed.

The Ambassador pledged to extend the fullest cooperation of the Government of Japan to the affairs of the Ministry in its best capacity in the years to come and it was also discussed how the ties between the two States would be strengthened by way of meeting to be held from time to time in the future.

The meeting was also attended by officials and representatives of the Embassy of Japan including Minister’s Private Secretary Janaka Ranathunga, Coordinating Secretary Fayad Bakeer and Media Secretary Chamila Wijesekara.
