The Government of Japan has pledged a grant of Japanese Yen (JPY) 963 million or around Rs. 1.94 billion to support two key projects, to boost the dairy sector productivity and strengthen the operational capacity of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The exchange of notes and related agreements for these two projects will be formally signed during President Anura Kumara Disanayake’s upcoming State visit to Japan.
The move was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday to proceed with the necessary arrangements.
Announcing the decision at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said of the total, JPY 463 million will be allocated to the Department of Animal Production and Health to provide modern equipment and technical assistance aimed at increasing dairy productivity.
He said the remaining JPY 500 million will be directed to the Sri Lanka Navy under the Official Security Assistance Project, which will include the provision of drones for surveillance, monitoring and investigative activities.
The proposal presented by President Disanayake in his capacity as the Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
