An Iranian Member of Parliament has claimed that vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz are being charged a fee of $ 2 million, according to the BBC.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, speaking on Iranian State television, said a “new governing regime” was being imposed in the strategic waterway, adding that “war has costs”.
He said the move reflects the “authority and right that the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses”.
The BBC said it has not been able to independently verify the claim regarding the alleged toll.
