Inland Revenue seeks court order over alleged Rs. 1 b VAT default by CMC

The Department of Inland Revenue has initiated legal proceedings against the Colombo Municipal Council seeking recovery of more than Rs. 1 billion in alleged unpaid Value Added Tax (VAT).

The Commissioner General of Inland Revenue has filed action before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court requesting an order to recover approximately Rs. 1,034 million allegedly owed to the Government by the CMC.

The Colombo Municipal Council has been named as the respondent in the case.
