Opposition MP and Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Leader Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam yesterday called on the Government to provide clearer solutions to several issues affecting pension beneficiaries and public sector employees.

In a post on X, Rasamanickam said he had raised three questions with the Minister of Public Administration relating to pension payments and pension eligibility.

The issues raised included the removal of withholding tax on pension payments amid the economic crisis, the establishment of a Pension Fund that would avoid placing a recurring burden on the Treasury through monthly payments, and measures for employees absorbed into permanent service after temporary appointments who were allegedly being denied pension benefits.

Rasamanickam said the Minister had previously responded to the questions, but argued that the reply did not provide solutions capable of resolving the issues raised.

He urged the Minister to provide clear answers and practical measures addressing the concerns of affected pension beneficiaries and public sector workers.
