HRCSL summons key officials over human rights violation

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said the censorship of social media, imposition of the emergency law without assessing it as a threat to national security is also a violation of human rights. 

These decisions were taken at a special meeting held yesterday with the participation of all members of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) the Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Mass Media and Information have been summoned to the Human Rights Commission tomorrow.

The Commission will inquire into the social media ban and the recent incidents of purported assault on journalists and civilians in Mirihana.
