H. M. J. M. Herath appointed new Commissioner General Registration of Persons

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved appointing H. M. J. M. Herath, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), as the new Commissioner General of Registration of Persons to fill the existing vacancy in the Department of Registration of Persons.

At present, an Additional Secretary to the Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry has been performing the duties of the post on an Acting basis. However, considering the department’s day-to-day operations and the need to expedite the issuance of the Sri Lanka Identity Digital Identity Card, authorities determined that a permanent appointment was necessary.

Herath is currently serving as the District Secretary and Government Agent of Kegalle District. The appointment is expected to strengthen administrative efficiency and accelerate key digital identity initiatives.

The proposal to this effect was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Digital Economy Minister.
