The Opposition’s no-confidence motion against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne will not be taken up for debate in Parliament tomorrow, Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake said on Friday.
Rathnayake said the Opposition had failed to amend the motion in accordance with the Standing Orders of Parliament and resubmit it before the 28 October deadline.
The debate had been scheduled for 3 November following a decision at a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business. An adjournment debate will be held that day instead, he said.
Rathnayake added that if the Opposition submits a revised motion in accordance with the Standing Orders, the Government could allocate time for a debate before the commencement of the debate on the 2027 Appropriation Bill.
