The Government yesterday warned the public against experimenting with anti-COVID-19 concoctions being circulated on social media.

The Promotion of Indigenous Medicine, Development of Rural Ayurvedic Hospitals and Community Health State Ministry issued a statement on the matter, in which Ministry Secretary Kumari Weerasekara explained that testing was being carried out on certain indigenous medicines and that the public would be informed when testing concluded.

Weerasekara added that the preparation of Ayurvedic medicines required knowledge of the ingredients and quantities and that incorrect preparation could have an adverse effect on the body.

She asked the public to only use traditional medicines like immune boosters, but to follow all safety guidelines issued by the Health Ministry in accordance with those provided by the World Health Organization (WHO).
