Govt. urged to pay compensation for incidents of LPG gas expositions

State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna yesterday said the Government is considering to pay compensation for LPG explosions and victims.

The Minister also drew attention to pay an initial a sum of Rs. 500,000 for medical expenses until a final decision taken on the compensation. He made these remarks at a meeting held with consumer groups yesterday which urged the Government to pay compensation for victims of gas expositions. 

“A loss of life on any occasion or disability is invaluable. But a compensation would be some kind of relief to the families of those affected,” he said, adding that discussions are ongoing with President and Finance Minister.

Alagiyawanna claimed that the gas companies should take the sole responsibility for those accidents, noting that their liable to protect the customer.
