The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved spending an estimated Rs. 131.02 million to develop tourism infrastructure facilities in the Jaffna District during this year.
The move is part of a larger tourism development program prepared by the Department of National Planning to be implemented from 2026-2028 covering all nine provinces.
“A tourism development program covers all nine provinces, focusing on the identification of tourism potential destinations and the development of infrastructure facilities to ensure a sustainable tourism industry,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
He said the total gross estimate for this program is Rs. 2,667.03 million.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
