The Government has introduced a special mechanism to provide fuel required for farmers to carry out agricultural activities, the Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Ministry said yesterday.
In a statement, the Ministry noted that harvesting for the 2025/26 Maha season is still continuing in several areas, while land preparation for the 2026 Yala season paddy cultivation has already begun in others.
Under the new arrangement, fuel quantities recommended by the Department of Agrarian Development will be issued to farmers at filling stations located closest to their cultivation lands.
The Ministry said details of farmers requiring fuel for harvesting or land preparation will be shared with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) through the Department of Agrarian Development’s database.
