GMOA to launch 24-hour strike over disputed transfers

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced a 24-hour islandwide token strike beginning at 8 a.m. today (31), citing concerns over what it alleges are politically motivated transfers.

Speaking at a media briefing, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya said the Association had identified a list of transfers it claims were carried out without proper procedure. He added that such a list had not been compiled under previous administrations.

The Association said the strike is being launched in protest against the transfers and is intended to draw attention to what it described as irregularities and political influence in the transfer process.
